The Asylum House supporst the Cadet Programs for the Greenwood and White River Twp. Fire Departments., the Indianapolis Crush Girl's Softball team, Local Cub Scouting, and the Johnson Co. Food Pantry.

The Asylum House would like to thank everyone who attended our haunt this year.  A portion of your money went to purchase materials, fuel, and food to assist local firefighters who traveled to the hardest hit area of Pass Christian MS in December and again in March.

With the extensive media coverage of New Orleans, many Americans do not realize that Hurricane Katrina actually hit landfall in the Pass Christian area bringing with it a surge of water 20+ feet tall, which traveled over 20 miles inland, destroying thousands of area homes, businesses, and lives in an instant.

Owners Trick and Nat traveled with members of the Greenwood Fire Dept. in December to Pass Christian and helped roof a house and drywall another house. Drywall, as well as all building materials, is very difficult to obtain locally in the gulf area.  The group took 8000 pounds of drywall with them that was purchased locally.  They also delivered a much needed commercial oven to Katrina's Kitchen, a tent set up on the beach that serves three hot meals daily to locals, workers, or anyone who stops in, free of charge.  Katrina's Kitchen is run by a group from the Evansville, IN area that traveled to Pass Christian, saw the need and chose to stay… indefinitely.

The rebuilding of the Gulf Coast area will take years. We cannot possibly describe in words or pictures the extent of the destruction there.  Rebuilding will be done one person, one family, one home, one town at a time. It will be done not by FEMA, or the state or federal government, but by thousands of their fellow Americans from across the country who are willing to give up a small portion of their busy lives, away from their intact homes, healthy families, and paying jobs to help lend a helping hand.

Again thanks to all.

Trick, Nat and the entire Asylum Gang

Note:

I do not in any way wish to trivialize the destruction and loss of life experienced in New Orleans .  My wife, Cyndi, was in New Orleans attending an EMS convention the weekend the hurricane hit. Unable to find transportation, she and her coworkers rode out the storm in their motel, very near the Superdome. My family spent 5 agonizing days not knowing if or when she would make it home. By the grace of God they were able to hitch a ride out of town the day the levy broke and all made back to Indiana safe and sound.

One of Nat's additional jobs for the week was to get up an hour early and make sure everyone got a good hot breakfast before the day's work began.
